We have been talking about how Bitcoin has become a popular buzzword that has become all hype and no substance recently but the crypto has definitely integrated itself within pop culture as the word Bitcoin has been featured for the first time in a Marvel movie titled ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’.
The reference to the crypto is on screen of the new computer animated movie for a fraction of a second but it’s definitely there! Amidst the sounds of the cryptos of the world celebrating.
The scene in question is set in an alternate universe where an alternate universe spidey is explaining how he ended up on air at an AU Times Square news display.
As the AU Spider man relays his story, the news ticker at the bottom of the news display shows the sentence, “Bitcoin hits new high” which is almost immediately updated with, “Bitcoin hits a new low.” This appears to be a comic jab at the uncertainty and volatility of the crypto market even in an alternate universe.
But it establishes that the Marvel creators envision an AU where Bitcoin market rises and crashes are chronicled in the news. And we absolutely love it, but we might not be alone in supporting that sentiment.
The Twitterverse is jumping for joy at this new opportunity of crypto integration;
However, this is definitely not the first time Marvel has been this brave to bet on Bitcoin and as we discussed earlier, back in 2018, a Marvel comic titled, ‘Hunt for Wolverine – Adamantium Agenda #1’ also featured a crypto reference.
The Bitcoin reference was made in a hilarious exchange between two characters in the series when one responds to the other’s doubts regarding the use of cryptocurrency with, “We’re half a mile underwater in a highly pressurized tube with a host of unstable criminal figures who are probably going to be haggling over explosive experimental weapons and you’re worried about… Bitcoin?”
