“We meet customers where they are, not tell them to be where we are”: Splinterlands CEO Jesse Reich

Will there ever come a time when even dear ol’ Grandma can dabble in blockchain games without needing an extensive tutorial? Will play-to-earn be the norm rather than the exception? Dive into these questions and more in this session from the online conference PG Connects Digital #8, where Splinterlands CEO Jesse Reich discusses mainstream blockchain gaming. On the subject of app stores and how to keep the mainstream consumer happy, he tells our Jon Jordan, “We try to meet customers where they are, rather than tell them, ‘You have to be where we are.'”

Splinterlands and what makes it tick
At the online conference run by our partner site PocketGamer.biz (September 2021), Splinterlands CEO Jesse Reich talks about the exponential growth of the game and the many pleasant surprises his team encountered along the way. He shares key performance stats about Splinterlands, as well as their goal to become the first mainstream blockchain game.

Reich touches upon how time invested in a traditional game has zero value and about how they used that concept to design a way for players to earn back what they’ve invested. For instance, players can earn vouchers in Splinterlands that they can use for the next generation of pack sales.

Mainstream blockchain gaming now and in the future
For developers planning to create their own blockchain experience, Reich shares valuable insights on what to focus on. One of the key takeaways for him is to be consistent. He also believes that people are the value – treat them well as the heart of the game and not just as a revenue stream. It’s also important to help others earn to earn, and to create a “Disaster Plan Growth”.

Towards the end of the session, Reich shares his thoughts on how traditional games are still very cautious at this stage. He mentions that players need to understand the idea of owning an asset in a game rather than just spending money for nothing. After all, why spend money on something if you’re not going to own it?

This half-hour talk is ideal for anyone who’s eager to know about how blockchain games can provide economic freedom for everyone. You can see conference panels like this in person by attending our upcoming partner events.
