The highly anticipated sequel to the very first grand strategy game powered by smart contracts, BLOCKLORDS, will soon be launching after nearly a year of development. BLOCKLORDS 2.0 will take the best features the first version had to offer and add tons of new gameplay, tactical battles and troop types to give players a unique medieval strategy game experience designed around a blockchain-based economy where players can truly own and trade their game assets.
Finding the Right Protocol
When exploring which protocol would best fit the ambitions of the BLOCKLORDS team, several test builds were created as experiments to test network performance. With the initial version launched on the TRON and NEO blockchains, and several alpha versions of 2.0 built on the Ethereum mainnet, Icon, and LOOM network, the team has gained a vast wealth of experience from working so closely with a variety of chains and strongly felt that a scalable sidechain was the only way to make the game user-friendly and scalable in nature.
A Scalable Sidechain
After careful consideration, the ultimate protocol was deemed to be Matic Network, which will allow us to create the best game possible and offer a smooth onboarding experience for new blockchain users, all with entirely free and fast transactions while remaining connected to the Ethereum mainnet and its burgeoning NFT economy! We are pleased to announce that BLOCKLORDS 2.0 will be launching on Matic in the coming months as we have reached the final cycle of development and are getting ready to release the game to the public.

Transferring Heroes
Our strong and active community of players is what has kept the team motivated and focused throughout the development progress of BLOCKLORDS. Now that we are close to embarking on the journey of BLOCKLORDS 2.0, we will soon be releasing a detailed guide on how you can transfer your heroes onto the Matic version of the game. No matter if you own a hero on the TRON, NEO, or Ethereum version, we will ensure that your assets are safely transferred over and remain in your possession. We are dedicated to keeping our old players satisfied while we open the door to a new generation of aspiring lords to share glory on the battlefield with!
Upcoming Gameplay Features
It would take too long to list out in detail all the new features that BLOCKLORDS 2.0 will include, but some of the new additions include multi-hero battles, troop recruitment and research systems, an item forge to craft unique items, Base building and resource farming, task rewards and loot boxes for won battles, and with much bigger systems coming after launch such as lord wars and dynasty building features (including marriage and children mechanics). These features are quite complex in nature and will be explained in further detail in an upcoming article series.
Blockchain Features
The key benefit of building on Matic is that players will have the option to import and export their heroes out of the game and onto the Ethereum mainnet as NFTs, where they can be sold for ETH depending on the hero’s value. In order to drive the market value of hero NFTs, the team is hard at work on a revenue generation system that will be awarded to heroes based on their title and in-game progress. Walletless Login
One of the main features of the 2.0 version that we are the most excited about is that it will allow us to offer walletless login for new users who are not familiar with blockchain, wallets, or cryptocurrencies. This will help us reach an entirely new base of users who are interested in medieval strategy games but hesitant to buy crypto. Creating a game world where blockchain users can interact with and help onboard traditional gamers is the first step in paving the way for mass-adoption in our opinion, and we can’t wait to share more details about how that will work.

We are onboarding to Matic Network to scale Blocklords using its Layer 2 scaling solution.
Matic’s state-of-art technology means cheaper and faster transactions for our players. Matic achieves scaling by utilizing sidechains for off-chain computation while ensuring asset security using the Plasma framework and a decentralized network of Proof-of-Stake (PoS) validators.
