IF code#00 :The Origin

It could have been another ordinary day untilthe sudden presence of those strange-looking data blocks. There wasn’t aubiquitous pattern for all data blocks: some of them fall from the sky; some ofthem just popped out from nowhere. Data blocks, which visually presented assome kind of holographic display embodiment, emerged over the world.

These data blocks were seemingly encrypted. Not only that it’s so hard to decipher, the message they contained isincomprehensible by itself. Sooner, groups of scientists and scholars startedto investigate this strange phenomenon. Among all scientists and scholars, therewas our heroine——mysteriousgenius inventor Miss. J, who also dedicated herself to this phenomenon. It wasunexpected and reasonable that an abandoned experimental project of Miss. Jthat had been left aside for years got a huge breakthrough for this…

“Digitalized Consciousness”, or “thetransition of human from carbon-based life to data-based life” The thesis ofthis program believes that a completely digitalized human can easily achievetraveling through space. If an inhabitable digital world is built, the eternal existence of intelligent creature can be achieved from certain aspects.

A digital new world, named ‘ONE universe’,was created through applications of these mysterious data blocks. This is aworld of creation where participants decide its order. Human can project theirconsciousness into this world via particular terminal, and create acontrollable digital incarnation that makes impact to the digital world justlike how living creatures make impacts to the real world.

In order to speed up the pace to gain large number of experiments data and research funds, Miss. J cloaked it up intoa trail-run game launching to the society. The strangely real gaming experiencetriggered strong responds from the society. In ONE universe, one of the mostcommented, epoch-making discovery was the new resource called “energy fragments”.

The consciousness ofhuman will be connecting to the psychic network when they process thinking orcreating. Consciousness may concentrate the energy and utilize it. And, theinnovation is the product of consciousness inside the brain. Besides, consciousnessbring together thoughts particles that are out spread or stored in brain toform new ideas, and infuse liveliness into psychic network. Thus psychic network and consciousness are dependent on each other. Psychic network is like a river of innovation. It flows around andever-changing. When individuals keep sparking innovations and overthrowing oldthoughts, a kind of energy fragment will be gained with the gathering of psychicnetwork .These fragments contain dense psychic power, which can be captured andapplied with high tech, and become the energy that sustains the ONE world.

In ONE universe, individuals could create all kinds of stuff they want, even including spaces governed by their personalrules, through intelligence and data. Yet, the overwhelming freedom without anybounds became the seed of disaster for the beautiful new world.

At the moment, Miss. J’s experiment took abig step forward. Along with the rapid expansion of ONE universe, Miss. J seemed to finally had a grip on the possibility of connecting the data world and the real world due to the sudden appearance of the energy fragments in real world. The tiny fragments appear to be glimmer particles, which may release tremendouspower when contained by particular containing bottle. They would have to send bottlesfor every users though.

But nobody had foresee the collapse of theexperimental world in one night. Too many individuals had been abusivelyletting off their desire and negative energy as they please. Dark zones emergedeverywhere in the data world with no stops. And, darkness only breeds moredarkness. Suddenly, reddish error sign, which only meant to warn, emerged and spreadrapidly like cancer in ONE universe. The malicious data had reached thethreshold, so the tornado of malicious data was taking off the world apart. What more surprising is that the negative energy fragments started to emerge inreality, which shines in glaring red light, sizzles, and their volumes aregetting bigger and bigger.

Despite being threat by the negative energyfragments, some people couldn’t even make the escape to the real world thattheir consciousness trapped in the digital world. The earth faced unprecedenteddanger for the first time.

In the time of fear,  those energy fragments, good or bad, abruptlyleft earth and vanished into deep space like if being pulled out by something. Thosefragments set off and formed an astonishing galaxy in the end. The sky on earthrecovered blueish, and only a few data blocks and fading energy trail wereleft. Luckily, consciousness of ONE universe users were sent back by some kindof unknown force and started to wake up.

Now, things become ordinary again. ONEuniverse disappears completely like there never was one.

The young genius Miss. J was gone with it. Somesay, she hides out from accounts and charges; some say, she is still continuingher experiment in a secret lab; some say, she’s still trapped in ONE universefor she won’t let go…then, people start to turn their eyes off from this.

The only one who’s close to the truth isMiss. J’s younger sister Uni.

Uni lost her parents when she was stilltaking school. Miss. J was her only support. They two look after each other foryears, and were deeply bonded. Uni went for her sister on the day that happened. But what awaits her was just the operation table and a collection of datablocks that looks like her sister, quietly staying in the messy lab where hersister had been taking study and disappeared.

The collection of data blocks appears to be hersister’s shape, imitating and repeating her older sister’s movements beforelike it’s alive. It seems that these data blocks is very close to the ultimatedigital form that her sister was looking after, but only in a past tense. Inorder to see what happened in this one year, Uni lived in the lab for it. Thedigital form isn’t conscious and it doesn’t have a concrete body. It is onlycarrying out its repetition of her older sister’s movements. And Uni was justquietly, sometimes crying, staying with her sisters digital form.

People say her sister was dead. She won’t buyit. What she want to do is just witnessing what her sister had been doing anddiscover the truth of her disappearance on her own.

In the record, her sister was doing researchmost of the time. She was very focused and energetic, smelling for achievementsand annoyed for getting stuck. Uni can’t help talking with it, like it was herreal sister she accompanied with. Uni once rushes to reach “her” when she sawher falling. But those data blocks which takes her older sister’s form stillfalls after passing through her hand. For that, Uni falls on the ground aswell, and cries with her hands comforting her knees.

Time flies, Uni knows it’s about time to wakeup from the dream.

The last day, the day that her sister gonewith ONE universe a year ago. Uni stayed by the door of the lab for so longbefore she opens the heaviest door. She knows that the digital form will begone when the data of the year is depleted. She knows she will discover thetruth of everything, but she was reluctant to see the truth of that day.

ONE universe wasn’t running smoothly, herolder sister was spending more time by the operation tab every day. Sheconsidered to shut ONE universe down temporarily, but the world was seeminglyout of her grip. she regretted not to add up some more reasonable regulationsand guidelines before launching.

But is was too late, large amounts of errorsigns showed up on the screen before her. She tried so hard to type commands toadjust things but it didn’t work. Suddenly, she stopped, like she felt theshaking up of ONE universe and outer reality. The huge energy fragmentscontainer shines red lights upon the side of her face.

Uni can see the spirit in her sister’s eyes, like she has made a decision. She walks to the experiment table, mumbling, andstart to wear some strange looking instruments and connect data wires to herown body.

Uni was shocked. What her sister was into wasto prelaunch those instruments that were still under development, and to enterand become part of the ONE universe so the world can stop from collapse. Eventhough she will cease to exist in reality.

At the moment, Uni forgets what before her isnot her real sister but a phantom. She tries to hug the phantom, persuading hersister not to do that. But she can’t. She can’t change what’s been and gone; shecan’t even have a firm grip on her sister.

J disappeared, and the phantom was gone.Something crazy comes into Uni’s mind.

Uni tries to get back on her feet. Sheexchanges with her sister’s pullover, and barely recovered her sister’s labwith her memory and what she have been learnt in this year. Finally, she openesan temporary entrance to ONE universe and squeezes herself in.

Even though she had no idea where ONE universeis, what condition ONE universe is at, and what she is going to face, she is goingto find her sister in ONE universe as long as her sister is in there.

Instruments are booming with sounds. Anintense pain and faintness kicking into her brain, Uni felt like consciousnesswas washed away with the data streams.

Thosedata streams were white which converge from spectrum of lights. Unlimitedbranches spreads everywhere, and if ONE universe still exists, it must locatesat one of the stream. But Uni couldn’t see or feel anything. She didn’t see ablue shadow storming against the streams, approaching her rapitly and keepingher data from falling apart.

Uni opened her eyes. What she saw was avacant universe. She can feel that she was just a ethereal form ofconsciousness in the data streams but an almost real embodiment. Shereincarnated into digital form.

She thought that data from mind and digitalform are enough components for a complete digital human, if she rememberedcorrectly, so she won’t see data stream again and won’t get affected from it.She settled. But the digital form wasn’t something free, she can feel her bodydoesn’t match her body of previous state. It is much more tiny. And what shewas doing could have been a failure, Rather than abnormal shape, she could havebeen nothing, becoming wasted information floating in data stream.

But sooner, Uni starts to understand why shelived, because J is hugging her from behind. That is a tender and heartbreakingembrace. Tears dimmed her sight when she had finally felt the touch of hersister. The simplest touch was the best wish in the past year of company. Shecried like a baby, blaming sister for abandoning the oath that they made thatthey will never be apart, even for saving the world.

But J didn’t respond. Uni escaped from herarms and turned back, and she noticed that J’s eyes are shut. She’s smiling andstill keeping hugging like if something will break apart from wind blowing.

  J didn’t wake up.

Uni and J’s digital form seemed unstable fora bit. Sometimes they flash like a troubled computer screen. She began torealize that it was her sister saved and pieced together her from the datastreams, and fall unconscious due to energy depletion.

Uni saw a ambient crystal like objectfloating in farther space. That was the core of ONE universe, but it doesn’tshine like before. Uni put her sister into the core for protecting her digitaldata.

There is nothing left, it seems, except forthe core and energy fragments that spread all over the universe. Uni’sdigitalization was incomplete, so she can’t absorb particle of thoughts tocreate. What she can only do is to keep gathering and sending energy fragmentsto the core to keep her sister and the world’s existence. She doesn’t know whatto do, but the last thing she want is seeing sister vanish before her eyeagain.

J and the core is her everything now. It’sher turn to protect her sister.

After long time, Uni felt something. “a newdigitalized human?”——Who restarted the entrance?

Like glitters shines in the long-lastingdarkness.

Under Uni’s guidance, people start to collectenergy fragments, gather particle of thoughts, and create new spaces, buildingsand other objects. Huge amount of energy is produced at the same time, and ONEuniverse starts to run again.

What would the new world be like this time…will she wake up..

All these, perhaps, are in your hands.
