When UFC and cryptocurrency met – and what happens next…

Litecoin is looking to more sponsorship opportunities with UFC…

Over the festive period, Litecoin earned itself some positive headlines by entering into a sponsorship deal with UFC for the light middleweight bout between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. Litecoin’s logo appeared on the canvas at the event, and its name was loudly broadcast by the fight announcer.

If digesting the impact of such sponsorship deals interests you, then Litecoin has posted an extensive breakdown of the impact it reckons the partnership had. You can read that in full here. Interestingly, though, the door is now clearly being held open for getting involved with more events of its ilk.

As Litecoin notes in its own report, “the opportunity this sponsorship has already created for LTC is hard to understate. While we have been fortunate to command steady interest from some great brands over the last couple of years, the ilk of globally recognizable brands that are reaching out to the foundation since UFC 232 has increased dramatically”. It added that it’s considering a broader range of sponsorship opportunities, the UFC included.

“As for the UFC, we plan to continue to discuss how to move this partnership forward in new and exciting ways. As this evolves, we will keep you posted”, it promised. As will we…

Here’s our earlier story from December 26th 2018…

Across 2018, we’ve seen examples of cryptocurrency firms moving into sports sponsorship. In the English Premiership, for instance, Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club inked a deal with CoinDeal at the start of the current season. As a result, the cryptocurrency exchange’s name is on the sleeves of the Wolves players. And Wolves are doing really rather well this season too, which has proven to be something of an added bonus.

But from football, we now jump to a very different sport: Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts. And as per an announcement that landed earlier today, The Litecoin Foundation as inked a deal that’ll see it become a sponsor of an upcoming bout for the first time.

The bout in question is the light heavyweight rematch that’s coming up this very weekend, between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. The fight will take place in California, and Litecoin will be the official cryptocurrency partner for it. Quite what cryptocurrency is required in the middle of a mixed martial arts bout is beyond us, in truth, but let’s not get churlish.

After all, as Litecoin points out in its official announcement, “this is a milestone for Litecoin and cryptocurrency in general as no other coin has sponsored a UFC event to date. With brands and institutions continuing to push into cryptocurrency and blockchain, this is yet another signal of this technology moving closer towards the mainstream”.

And certainly, every little helps. Assuming all goes well at the weekend, we may well see Litecoin making further moves to spread the crypto word. That can’t be a bad thing.
